Characteristics of Christian Virtues

Nov. 13
Always keep the eyes of the mind, as a prototype and model modesty of the divine Master; modesty of Jesus Christ that the apostle, in the words to the Corinthians, placed flush with meekness, which was one of his most cherished virtues and nearly his characteristic virtue: "I, Paul, I urge you by the meekness and modesty Christ "; and, in the light of such a perfect model reform all your external actions, which is the faithful mirror that shows your inner inclinations.
Never forget, oh Anita, this divine model; Imagine you contemplate some kind majesty in his presence; certain pleasant authority in his speech; some nice composure in his walk, in his look, in speech, in his talk; certain sweet serenity in the face; Imagine the face of that face so calm and so sweet with attracting to itself the crowds, the pulled out of the cities and villages, taking them to the mountains, the forests, lonely places, deserted beaches and the sea, forgetting even eating, drinking and domestic obligations.
Yes, let us try to copy us, as we possibly can, such modest actions as decorous; and let us, as it is possible, like Him in time, to be then more perfect and more like Him for eternity in the heavenly Jerusalem.

  (July 25, 1915, Anita Rodote - Ep. III, p. 86)

Characteristics of Christian Virtues

Sometimes life and society are leading us down paths that we have yet to go against our own will. Standards or learned patterns of behavior do we go forging a personality that at least abroad, we bring up a certain way to others. The person to be a mimetic being essentially turns to learning and data recording everything learned to implement mind back to the rules of conduct that must be. Similarly a person who discovers true Christian, that is identified with Jesus Christ and follower of Jesus Christ is one that never forgets and never under any circumstances is a reflection of God's love. That is, the projection of Jesus Christ himself. This can only be achieved by learning the virtues of the Divine Master. That is, knowing him, watching him, listening, obeying and serving him always at his feet. This will make the true disciple go changing, go cristificando, ie go saturating the presence of God in one's life, being filled with the grace of God is always present and active so that in this way anywhere where a Christian will find the attitudes of Jesus Christ to manifest.
It is necessary, therefore, to notice the lofty dignity that every Christians possess. This dignity must be characterized by discretion, shape behavior, generosity and how to talk to others, and above all and above all how to love and serve our brothers.

What is the ultimate purpose of your life?

Nov. 12
To get to reach our ultimate goal is necessary to follow the divine Head, who does not usually lead to different path chosen by the soul he ran; by in, I mean, abnegation and the Cross: "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." And you should not call so fortunate to see addressed by Jesus? Fool who can not penetrate the secret of the cross.
To reach the port of salvation, the Holy Spirit tells us, the souls of the elect must pass and purified in the fire of painful humiliations, such as gold and silver in the crucible, and thus saves the atonement of the afterlife: "stand firm in the suffering and setbacks in your humiliation be patient. For in the fire gold and silver is refined; men and acceptable to God, in the way of humiliation. "
Jesus wants us holy at all costs, but mostly wants to sanctify you. He is continually manifesting what you; seems to have no other concern at hand to sanctify your soul.Oh !, how good Jesus! Continuous junctions subjected to you, giving you the strength not only necessary but abundantly, to support them with merit, they are very true and most particular of his endearing love for you signs. The strength that he gives you, believe me, is not barren in you; I assure you from God and you must listen humbly aside any feeling against you.

  (August 15, 1914, to Raffaelina Cerase - Ep II, p. 153.)

What is the ultimate purpose of your life? That should be the question we constantly have to make us all Christians. It is necessary to not only stay with the question, but first and foremost with the response What PrGunTa answer to this? It should be a charged sense of faith, hope and love because these are the very characteristics of a Christian response. Herein is to follow Christ, to die to ourselves so that each day our actions, our lives and the survival of the virtues listed above, Christ Jesus, brightness of the glory of the Father, also shine in us. This is not achieved neither by goodwill, not by magic or anything other than a real encounter with Jesus Christ. A renewing, healing, purifying encounter. We must go through the fire to get clean, pure and spotless in the eyes of God, so our whole life is a constant renunciation of our attachments, but at the same time is to open ourselves to the presence, the love and mercy of God that is always there to favor us. You realize how much more is what we receive that we can leave, or what we can give. Sure, why ask the Eternal Father of mercies, Maker of heaven and earth to always be aware of your inspirations and ready to execute. You see so shine that bright light in the midst of a world full of darkness and pain, in which You will become a sign of the love and presence of God as we promised her Divine Son, be every day -we until the end of the world.

Fear not, I am your protector

November 4
Covet daughters, proud without anxiety, the best way to perform with perfection what you have and want to do; but, once made, do not think about it anymore, but Concern yourselves only what you should or want to do and what you are doing. Walk with ease in the ways of the Lord and not torment your spirit. It is necessary, yes, your defects hate each other, but with a quiet and not a hate hate and restless. We must be patient with the faults and take advantage of them by a holy resignation.
Without this patience, my good daughters, your imperfections, rather than diminish, grow more and more, because there is nothing to feed both our faults as anxiety and concern for them away. Remember, girls, I'm an enemy of useless desires, no less than I am from the dangerous and evil desires; because if it is true that what you want is good, but that desire is always defective in relation to ourselves, especially when mixed with a proud concern, since God does not require this kind of property, but others, who wants us to exercise us.
He wants to talk among thorns, briars, clouds and lightning, as Moses; and we want you to talk a whisper sweet and fresh, as did Elijah. But, what do you fear, my daughters? Listen to our Lord says to Abraham, and to you, "Fear not, I am your protector." Because what else on earth if you seek not God?

(March 8, 1918, the sisters Ventrella - Ep. III, p 576.)

Simplicity and humility are the hallmark of the true disciples of Jesus. It is true that these virtues are not the easiest to practice, moreover, the easiest to acquire, however opening the mind and heart are gradually becoming a way of life for those people that are practicing. It is necessary, therefore, to set aside our shortcomings and pay more attention to the virtues, knowing that they come from God and is the Spirit who strengthens them, however, ever turn our attention to our shortcomings only favors strengthening thereof. It is certainly necessary to be realistic, however, is neither good nor acceptable to God putting all the attention on that which often is only the fruit of our attention. The advantage of focusing our attention on the virtues in faults, is undeniably healthy acceptance thereof and therefore the put at the service of our brothers. Humility is recognizing that whatever good we do comes from God who gives us the grace to live it and practice it. Discovering because God always with us in the midst of the vicissitudes of life and let us realize that he is closer to us than ourselves, and that even in the midst of darkness and unease is there to console us, strengthen us, to love. In a word it is He who cares for us, protects us and delivers us from all evil. Trust him and he will act. Put your hands kindly blessed all the concerns of your heart and let him caress that is always attentive to your needs and find the beautiful, the beautiful, the grandiose and the sovereign God is with you.

Supenden senses his presence.

October 21
The ordinary way of my prayer is this. I hardly get to pray immediately feel the soul begins to collect in a peace and tranquility that can not be expressed in words. The senses are suspended, except the ear, sometimes remains active; but usually it does not bother me; and I must confess that, although a lot of noise around me were done, so I do not mind in the least.
From this he deduced that there are few occasions when I get to reason with the understanding.
And I frequently do that in times when the continuous thinking of God, always present in me, moves away from the mind, I feel then that the Lord, now and then, it hits me in the middle of my soul such a pervasive and so soft, almost always, I can not but mourn for my infidelity pain and tenderness to have such good and so helpful to go back to call his father presence.
(November 1, 1913, to Father Benedict of San Marco in Lamis - Ep I, p 420..)

Chosen souls are all those from our baptism we told God, "Yes, Lord come and dwell in me. Has my life your dwelling, your tent, your temple, your home." This always alive and active now the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit present in us leads us to fully trust God. God is our help and our strength, He defends us in danger and gives us wings of eagles to migrate to its most sacred heart. Herein is abandno prayer, contemplative prayer, deeper prayer, fully trusting the Lord. When a soul is about to enter into a relationship with God, moved by the Holy Spirit, he jumps into the vast ocean of your love, the senses supenden and only a "You" heart to heart.OMG! How to express those moments that burn but do not consume? This only we can explain from experience and trust. Pray, always pray and not lose heart and the Lord will come to your aid, you will comfort and take in your arms, you tuck the folds of her open heart and will protect you from all the evil that is around you, will give you peace and joy and make you immensely happy.

I can never bring myself to be separated from you

Oct. 16

All the sufferings of this earth together in a bundle, I will accept my God, the desire as my portion; but I can never bring myself to be separated from you for lack of love.Ah !, mercy, do not let this poor lost soul ande; never consent thou my hope is thwarted. Make me never be separated from you; and, if I am right now without being aware of it, draw me this instant. Refresh my understanding, O my God, that I know myself well and know the great love you have shown me, and can enjoy eternally sovereign beauty of your divine face.
Never happen, dear Jesus, I waste precious treasure for me is you. My Lord and my God, is very much alive in my soul that ineffable sweetness that comes from your eyes, and with you, my love, you deign to look with eyes of love and mean to this poor soul.
How can mitigate the torment of my heart, knowing me away from you?My soul knows very well what a terrible battle was mine when you, my dear, you hide from me!What vividly etched in my soul, or my sweetest lover, and fulminant remains that terrible picture!

(October 17, 1915, Father Agustin de San Marco in Lamis -. Ep I, p 674.)

Love is the perfect clear and distinctive Christian soul, not because the Christian soul is more virtuous than the other, but because the engine that leads to love is precisely the love shown to mankind. A Love that we currently practice is urgent. The example is God himself that "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, not to condemn the world but to save it." So we need to know love from God and not from men. Apparently suffering separates us from God, but there is no greater suffering than be separated from Him. Physical, spiritual suffering brings us closer to God and gives us the opportunity to participate in the salvation of souls. Loving Jesus did not let my suffering will never stay away from you, on the contrary, my God do that every day I go by setting increasingly Poor thy Son, humble and crucified in this manner for the conversion of poor sinners and that neither life, nor death, nor sin nor sorrow, nor suffering never take me away from You, but that lead me to the depths of your hearts for your enjoyment there divine consolations. Amen.

God is always faithful and comes to us still in pain.

Oct. 15
You tell me that the venerable Sister Teresa of the Child Jesus would say, "I do not want to choose neither death nor life; Jesus make me whatever he wants! ". Unfortunately, I see clearly that this is the portrait of all the empty souls of himself and full of God. But what my soul is far from a wreck like this! I do not get curb impulses of the heart; however, father, I try to get close to what he said the venerable Sister Teresa, who, moreover, must be said of all inflamed souls of God's love.
But being honest, I must confess that I fail, because I remain a prisoner in a body of death. I note, I say, that in me no love God because, if any, with the same spirit that gives life, the effect should be the same.
To clarify: if acting in me it was acting in the Sister Teresa, I too would rather the saying that holy soul. So tell me, I have no reason to doubt?Alas !, who shall deliver me from this cruel torment of my heart?
(October 17, 1915, Father Agustin de San Marco in Lamis -. Ep I, p 674.)

The experience of the saints necessarily pass through the dark night, by the desolation [on the wilderness, by pain, by disease and by the doubts of such deep faith and as large as deep and large is the Love of God compared with the entire universe it remains tiny. Faithfulness to God is going acrisolando every day with the reality that we will tocadon live, not always, more is almost never agree to what we would like. But down the road the only certainty is that God is there, waiting for us at anytime, anywhere, in any event or any person to send us His Love, His Mercy and His faithfulness. God is always faithful and always will meet who trust in Him despite the mistrust and lack of faith.
Lord increase my faith, my love and loyalty to you and the work of your kingdom, that all may see only your will and make every no strength to carry it out. Grant that I may let your work is done for me in the end can contemplate full of glory and majesty, but mostly full of love for all men and women who nevertheless trust in You.

Veronica Giuliani Poor Clare Capuchin

BENEDICT XVI

GENERAL AUDIENCE

Paul VI Hall
Wednesday, 15 December 2010

Saint Veronica Giuliani

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today I would like to present a mystic who did not live in the Middle Ages. She is St Veronica Giuliani, a Poor Clare Capuchin nun. The reason is that 27 December will be the 350th anniversary of her birth. Città di Castello, the place where she lived the longest and where she died, as well as Mercatello — her birthplace — and the Diocese of Urbino are celebrating this event with joy.

Indeed, Veronica was born on 27 December 1660 in Mercatello, in the Metauro Valley to Francesco Giuliani and Benedetta Mancini. She was the last of seven sisters, three of whom were to embrace the monastic life.

She was given the name “Orsola” [Ursula]. She was seven years old when her mother died and her father moved to Piacenza as customs superintendent of the Duchy of Parma. It was in this city that Ursula felt a growing desire to dedicate her life to Christ. The call to her became ever more pressing so that, when she was 17, she entered the strict cloister of the monastery of Capuchin Poor Clares in Città di Castello. She was to remain here for the rest of her life. Here she received the name of “Veronica”, which means “true image” and she was in fact to become a true image of the Crucified Christ.

A year later she made her solemn religious profession and the process of configuration to Christ began for her, through much penance, great suffering, and several mystic experiences linked to the Passion of Jesus: being crowned with thorns, the mystical espousal, the wound in her heart and the stigmata.

In 1716, when she was 56, she became Abbess of the monastery. She was reconfirmed in this office until her death in 1727, after a very painful prolonged agony that lasted 33 days and culminated in a joy so profound that her last words were: “I have found Love, Love has let himself be seen! This is the cause of my suffering. Tell everyone about it, tell everyone!” (Summarium Beatificationis, 115-120).

On 9 July she left her earthly dwelling place for the encounter with God. She was 67 years old; 50 of those years she spent in the monastery of Città di Castello. She was canonized on May 26, 1893, by Pope Gregory XVI.

Veronica Giuliani wrote prolifically: letters, autobiographical reports, poems. However, the main source for reconstructing her thought is her Diary, which she began in 1693: about 22,000 handwritten pages that cover a span of 34 years of cloistered life.

Her writing flows spontaneously and continuously. There are no crossings-out, corrections or punctuation marks in it, nor was the material divided into chapters or parts according to a plan.

Veronica did not intend to compose a literary work; on the contrary, Fr Girolamo Bastianelli, a Filippini religious, in agreement with the diocesan Bishop Antonio Eustachi, obliged her to set down her experiences in writing.

St Veronica has a markedly Christological and spousal spirituality: She experienced being loved by Christ, her faithful and sincere Bridegroom, to whom she wished to respond with an ever more involved and passionate love. She interpreted everything in the key of love and this imbued her with deep serenity. She lived everything in union with Christ, for love of him, and with the joy of being able to demonstrate to him all the love of which a creature is capable.

The Christ to whom Veronica was profoundly united was the suffering Christ of the Passion, death and Resurrection; it was Jesus in the act of offering himself to the Father in order to save us.

Her intense and suffering love for the Church likewise stemmed from this experience, in its dual form of prayer and offering. The Saint lived in this perspective: she prayed, suffered and sought “holy poverty”, as one “dispossessed” and the loss of self (cf. ibid., III, 523), precisely in order to be like Christ who gave the whole of himself.

In every page of her writings Veronica commends someone to the Lord, reinforcing her prayers of intercession with the offering of herself in every form of suffering. Her heart dilated to embrace all “the needs of the Holy Church”, living anxiously the desire for the salvation of “the whole world” (ibid., III-IV, passim).

Veronica cried: “O sinners... all men and all women, come to Jesus’ heart; come to be cleansed by his most precious blood.... He awaits you with open arms to embrace you” (ibid., II, 16-17).

Motivated by ardent love, she gave her sisters in the monastery attention, understanding and forgiveness. She offered her prayers and sacrifices for the Pope, for her Bishop, for priests and for all those in need, including the souls in Purgatory.

She summed up her contemplative mission in these words: “We cannot go about the world preaching to convert souls but are bound to pray ceaselessly for all those souls who are offending God... particularly with our sufferings, that is, with a principle of crucified life” (ibid., IV, 877). Our Saint conceived this mission as “being in the midst” of men and God, of sinners and the Crucified Christ.

Veronica lived profound participation in the suffering love of Jesus, certain that “to suffer with joy” is the “key to love” (cf. ibid., I, 299.417; III, 330.303.871; IV, 192). She emphasizes that Jesus suffers for humanity’s sins, but also for the suffering that his faithful servants would have to endure down the centuries, in the time of the Church, precisely because of their solid and consistent faith.

She wrote: “His Eternal Father made them see and feel the extent of all the suffering that his chosen ones would have to endure, the souls dearest to him, that is, those who would benefit from his Blood and from all his sufferings" (ibid., II, 170).

As the Apostle Paul says of himself: “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his Body, that is, the Church” (Col 1:24).

Veronica reached the point of asking Jesus to be crucified with him. “In an instant”, she wrote, “I saw five radiant rays issue from his most holy wounds; and they all shone on my face. And I saw these rays become, as it were, little tongues of fire. In four of them were the nails; and in one was the spear, as of gold, red hot and white hot: and it went straight through my heart, from one side to the other ... and the nails pierced my hands and feet. I felt great pain but in this same pain I saw myself, I felt myself totally transformed into God” (Diary, I, 897).

The Saint was convinced that she was already participating in the Kingdom of God, but at the same time she invoked all the Saints of the Blessed Homeland to come to her aid on the earthly journey of her self-giving while she waited for eternal beatitude; this was her undying aspiration throughout her life (cf. ibid., II, 909; V, 246).

With regard to the preaching of that time which often focused on “saving one’s soul” in individual terms, Veronica shows a strong “sense of solidarity”, a sense of communion with all her brothers and sisters on their way towards Heaven and she lives, prays and suffers for all. The penultimate, earthly things, although appreciated in the Franciscan sense as gifts of the Creator, were always relative, altogether subordinate to “God’s taste” and under the sign of radical poverty.

In the communio sanctorum, she explains the gift of herself to the Church, as the relationship between the pilgrim Church and the heavenly Church. “All the Saints”, she wrote, “are up there thanks to the merit and the Passion of Jesus; but they cooperated with all that the Lord did, so that their life was totally ordered ... regulated by these same works (his)” (ibid., III, 203).

We find many biblical citations in Veronica's writings, at times indirectly, but always precise. She shows familiarity with the Sacred Text, by which her spiritual experience was nourished. Furthermore, it should be pointed out that the intense moments of Veronica's mystical experience are never separate from the salvific events celebrated in the Liturgy, where the proclamation of the Word of God and listening to it has a special place. Hence Sacred Scripture illumines, purifies and confirms Veronica’s experience, rendering it ecclesial. On the other hand, however, her experience itself, anchored in Sacred Scripture with uncommon intensity, guides one to a more profound and “spiritual” reading of the text itself, to enter into its hidden depths. Not only does she express herself with the words of Sacred Scripture but she also really lives by them, they take on life in her.

For example, our Saint often quotes the words of the Apostle Paul: “If God is for us, who is against us?” (Rom 8:31; cf. Diary, I, 714; II 116.1021; III, 48).

The assimilation of this Pauline text, her great trust and profound joy, becomes a fait accompli within her. “My soul”, she wrote, “was bound to the divine will and I was truly established and fixed for ever in the will of God. It seemed to me that I should never again have to be separated from this will of God and I came to myself with these precise words: nothing will be able to separate me from the will of God, neither anxieties, nor sorrows nor toil nor contempt nor temptation nor creatures nor demons nor darkness, not even death itself, because, in life and in death, I want all, and in all things, the will of God” (Diary, IV, 272). Thus we have the certainty that death is not the last word, we are fixed in God’s will, hence, truly, in eternal life.

In particular, Veronica proved a courageous witness of the beauty and power of Divine Love which attracted her, pervaded her and inflamed her. Crucified Love was impressed within her flesh as it was in that of St Francis of Assisi, with Jesus’ stigmata. “‘My Bride’, the Crucified Christ whispers to me, ‘the penance you do for those who suffer my disgrace is dear to me’.... Then detaching one of his arms from the Cross he made a sign to me to draw near to his side... and I found myself in the arms of the Crucified One. What I felt at that point I cannot describe: I should have liked to remain for ever in his most holy side” (ibid., I, 37). This is also an image of her spiritual journey, of her interior life: to be in the embrace of the Crucified One and thus to remain in Christ's love for others.

Veronica also experienced a relationship of profound intimacy with the Virgin Mary, attested by the words she heard Our Lady say one day, which she reports in her Diary: “I made you rest on my breast, you were united with my soul, and from it you were taken as in flight to God” (IV, 901).

St Veronica Giuliani invites us to develop, in our Christian life, our union with the Lord in living for others, abandoning ourselves to his will with complete and total trust, and the union with the Church, the Bride of Christ.
She invites us to participate in the suffering love of Jesus Crucified for the salvation of all sinners; she invites us to fix our gaze on Heaven, the destination of our earthly journey, where we shall live together with so many brothers and sisters the joy of full communion with God; she invites us to nourish ourselves daily with the Word of God, to warm our hearts and give our life direction. The Saint’s last words can be considered the synthesis of her passionate mystical experience: “I have found Love, Love has let himself be seen!”. Thank you.

Do not scare the cross!

Do not scare the cross. The truest test of love is to suffer for the beloved, and, God love so much pain suffered, the pain he suffers is as friendly as love. In the afflictions that the Lord gives you, be patient and settle the Divine Heart with joy, knowing that everything is an ongoing joke lover.
Tribulations, crosses, have always been the heritage and the portion of the chosen souls. The more Jesus wants to raise a soul to perfection, the more it increases the cross of tribulation. Rejoice, I say, to see so privileged without any merit on your part. The more troubled you are, the more you cheer for the soul in the fire of tribulation will become worthy of being placed to shine in the sky palace fine gold.

  (July 14, 1914, to Raffaelina Cerase -. Ep II, p 126.)

Today for our being essentially rationalists and many hard times heart for faith, ie to believe in God, it also costs us a lot to understand the meaning of suffering, we think it is a punishment, it is disrespectful to dignity of our people or our freedom, yet never think is the caress of the hand of God who loves us. We did not think that through our pain and suffering well spent can first be Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior who suffered unto death, even death on a cross. Secondly do not think that if we unite our pain and suffering the pain and suffering of Jesus Christ, our pain and suffering is redemptive, saving souls from Jesus Christ. This beautifies us, humbles us and brings us closer to God. May the loving heart of Jesus burning with the fire of divine love grant us the grace to light the flame of atonement and generous commitment to the good of our brothers, mainly by the furthest from God. May the joy that causes us to be near the heart of Jesus and sharing their pain either as daily food to sustain us and lead us in paths of righteousness and holiness.

Saciémonos with the delicacy of Heaven

In these sad times, in which many souls fall away from God , I can not persuade me that you can live the true life without food for the strong. In these times when we are constantly surrounded by people who have at heart the hatred of God and blasphemy on his lips , the sure way to keep away from smelly spread around us , is to strengthen the eucharistic meal .Now, stay blameless and progress in life of perfection may not reach those who live for months without meat fed with the immaculate Lamb of God . I do not know what others think on this point ; for me , given the particular circumstances in which we live is always illusory to convince advancing towards perfection which is limited to Communion once or twice a year.

( May 9, 1914 , to Raffaelina Cerase - . Ep II , p 87 . )

The Christian who is convinced that only the mercy of God can make us docile to the Spirit of truth and holiness , which is the Spirit of the Risen Christ child , is the Christian who accepts the truth and holiness offered by our Good Father God. Is required for a deep humility and a humble living the truth in one's life to discover the work of God in humanity and in every one of the people around us . This is only attainable through the food that God gives us every day and we received undeserved and unworthy by his grace alone . This Food is the Most Holy Body and Holy Blood of Jesus Christ . Let us go regularly every day at Sacred Feast of the Wedding of the Lamb and the blancmange saciémonos sky which is his Body and Blood. Food and drink that give eternal life and keep us ever faithful to the love of God and our faith.
